Privacy Policy
Last updated: 1 July 2025
Lania Design Studio Pty Ltd (ABN 81 703 567 382) (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates laniadesignstudio.online and provides professional business and consulting services to clients in Melbourne VIC and across Australia. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal information responsibly, in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
1. Our commitment to the Australian Privacy Principles
The APPs set out the standards that private sector organisations in Australia must observe when collecting, holding, using and disclosing personal information. This policy explains how we apply those principles in our day-to-day operations. In summary, we collect personal information only where it is reasonably necessary for our business functions, we are open about what we do with it, we take reasonable steps to keep it secure and accurate, and we honour your rights to access and correct the information we hold about you.
2. Personal information we collect
The kinds of personal information we may collect include:
- your name, business name and position (where relevant);
- your email address;
- details of your enquiry, project brief or business requirements;
- documents and information you choose to provide so that we can deliver our services or prepare a quote;
- billing and transaction records associated with our services; and
- technical information about your visit to our website, such as pages viewed, browser type, device type and approximate location derived from your IP address.
We do not collect sensitive information (such as information about your health, religion or political opinions) unless it is reasonably necessary for one of our functions, you have consented, or the collection is required or authorised by Australian law. We do not sell personal information to third parties.
3. How we collect personal information
We collect personal information in the following ways:
- Directly from you — when you submit our enquiry or quote forms (contact or request a quote), send us an email, or correspond with us in the course of an engagement;
- Automatically — through cookies, analytics tools and server logs when you browse our website; and
- From third parties — for example, if a colleague or referrer provides your contact details with your permission.
4. Why we collect personal information
We collect, hold, use and disclose personal information so that we can:
- respond to enquiries and prepare quotations for prospective clients;
- deliver our professional business and consulting services;
- manage our business operations, including invoicing, accounting and record-keeping;
- meet our legal, accounting and taxation obligations under Australian law;
- maintain and improve the performance and security of our website; and
- send marketing communications, but only where permitted and always with a simple way to opt out.
5. Anonymity and pseudonymity
Where it is lawful and practicable, you may deal with us anonymously or using a pseudonym. For example, you are welcome to browse our website without providing any personal details. However, we generally require your name and email address to respond to an enquiry, prepare a quote or deliver services, so full anonymity is not always possible for engagement-related matters.
6. Disclosure of personal information
We disclose personal information only for the purposes described in this policy. We may share information with:
- service providers who assist us with website hosting, email delivery, cloud storage, analytics or accounting software, bound by confidentiality obligations;
- professional advisers such as accountants, auditors and legal advisers; and
- government agencies, regulators or courts where disclosure is required or authorised by law.
Some of our service providers may be located outside Australia, which may mean your personal information is processed overseas. Where we disclose information to overseas recipients, we take reasonable steps to ensure the recipient handles it in accordance with APP 8, such as through contractual safeguards.
7. Direct marketing
We may use your contact details to send you information about our services where we have your consent, or where you would reasonably expect us to do so. Every marketing communication we send includes a clear and simple opt-out mechanism. You may also withdraw consent at any time by emailing ceo@laniadesignstudio.online, and we will act on your request promptly.
8. Data quality and security
We take reasonable steps to ensure the personal information we collect is accurate, up to date and complete, and to protect it from misuse, interference, unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. Measures include encrypted website connections (HTTPS), access controls, secure cloud storage with reputable providers, and limiting access to personal information to those who need it to perform their duties.
We retain personal information only for as long as it is needed for the purposes described in this policy, or as required by Australian law (for example, business and taxation records must generally be retained for at least five years). Once information is no longer required, we take reasonable steps to destroy it or de-identify it.
9. Accessing and correcting your personal information
You may request access to the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete, irrelevant or misleading. We will respond to access and correction requests within a reasonable period (usually within 30 days). In some circumstances, such as where the law permits or requires it, we may decline a request, and if so we will explain why and how you can seek a review.
10. Notifiable data breaches
If an eligible data breach occurs — that is, unauthorised access to or disclosure of personal information that is likely to result in serious harm to an affected individual — we will comply with the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). This includes notifying affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) as required.
11. Cookies and website analytics
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to keep the site functioning, remember your preferences and understand how visitors use the site through aggregated analytics. Most web browsers allow you to manage or disable cookies through your browser settings. If you disable cookies, some features of the website may not function as intended.
12. Making a privacy complaint
If you have a concern about how we have handled your personal information, please contact us first. We take complaints seriously and will acknowledge your complaint promptly, investigate it fairly and provide a written response, generally within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at www.oaic.gov.au.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal obligations. The current version will always be published on this page, together with the date of the most recent revision.
